Hongsa, Sayabouri, is the home of many Lao elephants and an area where you can experience these amazings animals while they do their day work. Most elephants still work in logging, unless they are engaged with foreign visitors for safaris and Elephant rides. This program gives you the opportunity to see them while working in their normal enviroment. A short walking tour make this day a Laotian adventure for you and also supports  the Elephants.

After breakfast you will walk to a nearby saw mill where elephants are waiting and you will follow them into the jungle. Walking through some little streams, sometimes muddy, sometimes wet, always following the elephants and their mahouts will give you an opportunity to get an insight into the elephant’s living surrounding. Make sure that you have the right shoes for this lifelong adventure.

You will arrive at a place where the mahout begins to give commands to the elephant. You see how he pulls logs and how he turns heavy logs into the right position either with his trunk, his feet or his head. The mahout prepares lunch either in the jungle or in a hut where you can sit and enjoy local food together. After lunch and resting your feet, you will take the log to the saw mill. You walk with the elephant to a nearby little river.

The elephant take a bathe in the river, you can join him.

Late afternoon we once again return home to JUMBO GUESTHOUSE, wet, weary and dirty but full of a day of unforgettable experiences and memories.

Attention: Elephants are still wild animals and dangerous. So please follow the instructions of the Tourguide and never get close to the Elephant without permission.
